Lapp Group presents solutions for electric vehicles at Hannover Messe 2014

This year's Hannover Messe exhibition turned out to be a great success for the Lapp Group. Among the many visitors to the stand were also high–ranking guests - German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who were interested in the novelties of the family business. Andreas Lapp, Chairman of the Board of Lapp Holding AG, and his brother, Siegbert Lapp (member of the Board of Lapp Holding AG, responsible for technology and innovation development), had the opportunity to introduce the German Chancellor to LAPP DOUBLE-HELIX, a unique system for charging stations for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, developed and patented by Lapp Group. Its uniqueness lies in the spiral design of the charging cable, which makes the system particularly compact for storage. LAPP DOUBLE-HELIX weighs almost 50% less than conventional charging systems with spiral cables, takes up half the space, and the cost of LAPP DOUBLE-HELIX is 25% lower.

"Design and, more importantly, weight are key indicators when it comes to designing electric machines," explains Siegbert Lapp. "They still have a fairly short run on an electric motor, but with each reduced kilogram of weight they can go much more." The LAPP HELIX cable with Lapp Group's own "Type 2" charger connector meets these requirements. The "Type 2" connector has been recognized by the EU as a reference for use in this type of chargers.

The Chancellor fully approved the Lapp Group's initiatives: "Wonderful! Such ingenuity among German medium-sized companies never ceases to amaze. They make a significant contribution to the global market. This is a solid foundation that serves the German economy well."

The Lapp family is passionate about electric transport: Andreas Lapp's company car is an electric drive car of the Smart brand, and Siegbert Lapp is one of the first owners of the new BMW i3.
